May Movie Marathon

My last visit to the cinema in the US was in July 2011 when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 was released. That was my first American cinema visit and it was a sophisticated cinebistro where we could dine and watch simultaneously. There is no question that having such luxury would cost us $13.50 per movie ticket and a plate of popcorn chicken would cost $10.50.

On the other hand, we have other cheaper chain cinemas such as Bow Tie Cinemas and Regal Cinemas in Richmond, where we can get a movie ticket ranging from $7 – $12.00 (depending when and how old the movie is). Should we really want to skimp and save our wallets from being holey, we can always opt for a visit to the Byrd Theatre where a ticket costs only $1.99 because the movies played in this theatre are always 3 months after the actual release date.

It has been a good ten months of no entertainment expenses because I had the opportunity to watch most of the latest movies in my long-haul flights with Emirates and getting some of them through a source of the-one-shall-not-be-named. Now I must admit with the ongoing movie trailers being released, I simply cannot resist the temptation of watching the movies with a gigantic screen in front of me.

Thus, last week, I visited the cinema twice with my hubby. We watched The Hunger Games (finally) on Wednesday and Marvel’s Avengers on Saturday.

Hunger Games 01
Hunger Games 2 Hunger Games 3

The Hunger Games is adapted from a young adult novel written by Suzanne Collins, who is an American television writer and novelist. The interesting plot starts with 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in a post-apocalyptic world in the country of Panem where the countries of North America once existed. The Hunger Games is an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12 to 18 from each of the 12 districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle until only one person is left. I would freak out if I were to live in this era. Honestly! I bet the books would be a better read after watching the film adaptation.

The Avengers 01
The Avengers - Ironman Black Widow Avengers

On the other hand, Marvel’s Avengers was easily a blockbuster hit due to the main superheroes such as IronMan, Thor, Captain America, Incredible Hulk and et cetera. Who doesn’t like superheroes? We grew up with superheroes that would constantly save the world from villains. For the ladies, superheroes are like ham sandwich, yummy to be seen! LOL! Not surprising to many people, IronMan is definitely my favourite among all.

Dark Shadows 1
Eva Green MIchelle Pfeiffer Helena Carter

Another movie that caught my attention is Dark Shadows. Oh, I can’t wait to lay my eyes on Johnny Depp this Friday evening. Pardon me. I meant his production and performance in this movie. Johnny Depp is joined with other female stars such as Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter in this latest fantasy comedy by Tim Burton.

Oh well, oh well, let the movie marathon begin!
